ICR received funding from the Minority Ethnic Development Fund to develop a training course entitled “Cultural Issues and Gender-Based Violence.” This course is OCN Accredited. Research has identified that BME women are often unable to access services equally due to lack of cultural sensitivity and lack of accommodation to their needs. Modules raise awareness about various forms of gender-based violence, discuss the impact of racism or lack of cultural sensitivity, and increase the participants’ proficiency in working with BME women. Modules include: Gender-based Violence and Culture - Myths and Realities; Domestic and Sexual Violence in BME communities; Challenges for Immigrants, Refugees and Asylum Seekers; Female Genital Mutilation and ‘Culturally-Specific’ Violence; and Mental Health and Resilience Building.
