The British Council’s Next Generation Research Programme

The Institute for Conflict Research invites you to take part in a focus group for the British Council’s Next Generation research programme. Next Generation aims to gather data to explore the needs, potential, and aspirations of young people (18-30) globally and has already been run in a number of countries including Bangladesh, Nigeria and Ukraine.

The overall aim of Next Generation is:

  • Understanding youth attitudes and aspirations
  • Amplifying youth voice
  • Supporting better youth policy-making

If you would like to read the reports from other countries involved in the research, please visit the British Council website.

Research on the island of Ireland has been sparked by the Brexit referendum. For a younger generation, who have lived all or most of their lives as Europeans, and with their nearest neighbours also in the EU, Brexit is likely to mean a radical change.

With this in mind, we would like to hear from you about various aspects of your life– do you feel your voice is being heard? What is your engagement in the civic, economic, social and democratic life of your country? What are your aspirations for influencing your community, country and the wider world? How do you see the relationship, now and in the future, between the Irish Republic, Northern Ireland, the UK as a whole, and Europe?

This is an exciting opportunity to take part in a high-level research programme which aims to ensure that the interests of young people are properly represented in decisions that will have lasting implications for their lives. So if you are aged between 18 and 30 and are an Irish national currently residing in Ireland, or identify as British and/or Irish living in Northern Ireland or work with young people in this age group and would like to take part in the programme, please contact us on the below by 5pm Friday 22nd June 2018:
